How do I enrol my Android device for Intune MDM?

This guide explains the installation procedure to enrol Android devices into Intune MDM.

Your experience may differ slightly depending on the Android OS version and tablet Vendor or different individual customisation of your device. The example device in this guide is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A (which is the recommended Android device offered in Procurement), but the principal procedure will be comparable with other Android devices.  A printable PDF version of these instructions can be found here

Please note:  If the device is currently enrolled in the AirWatch MDM you will need to unenroll the device via the Airwatch Self-Service portal or contact the IS Service Desk to unenroll the device before proceeding with Intune.

To install and enrol Android devices into Intune MDM:

  • Download and install the Intune Company Portal app from the Play Store.

  • Open the Intune Company Portal app and it will prompt you to sign in with your University account.

  • Sign in with your Edinburgh Napier University login (4XXXXXXX) followed by

  • Enter your Edinburgh Napier password and Sign In.

  • The Set Up wizard is ready. Select Continue to start.

  • You can review what Edinburgh Napier can see. SelecContinue to proceed.

  • Depending on the Android device make, you may be required to accept extra Terms & conditions (in this case for Samsung).
  • Select Next to continue. 

  • After the extra Terms & conditions (if needed) have been completed, a set-up of the Work Profile will be required.
  • Select Agree to continue. 

  • Once the Edinburgh Napier Intune Work Profile has downloaded, select Continue to install the Work Profile

  •  Once the Work Profile is installed, Edinburgh Napier Intune MDM enrolment is complete!
  • Select Done to finish the installation wizard.


The Intune Company Portal App

Access the apps available from the Edinburgh Napier Intune MDM from the Intune Company Portal app tab:

  • Select the Google Play icon to initially sign-in.

  • The Android Work setup (Samsung Knox in this case) has a separate section to access the Company Portal and other Edinburgh Napier University Intune Apps.
  • Go to the Android Home page, and Swipe Down or Up.


  • Touch on the Work section,  and you will see where to access the Company Portal and other Edinburgh Napier Intune Apps.
