I have a new University owned mobile device, how do I set it up?

Aimed at:  Edinburgh Napier’s staff

When you get a new University mobile device you must follow the New Device Checklist to ensure you're able to access the University’s online services from your device and to:

  • Ensure you’re able to access the University’s online services from your device.
  • Ensure the University’s information is protected.

If you use your personal device to access University services you are advised to follow the same steps to ensure the University’s information is protected.

Set up a passcode / PIN / password on the Mobile Device Refer to the Mobile Device manufacturer’s website.  
Take a note of your Mobile Phone number and IMEI number Refer to How do I find out my Mobile Phone number? and How do I find out my IMEI number?  
Switch off the ability to access the device’s control centre when the screen is locked Refer to the Mobile Device manufacturer’s website.  
Connect your device to eduroam, the University’s Wireless Network Refer to: http://staff.napier.ac.uk/services/cit/OnCampusService/WirelessService/Pages/WirelessService.aspx   
 Set up access to University email (optional) Refer to: http://staff.napier.ac.uk/services/cit/telecommunications/Mobile/Pages/MobileDeviceHelp.aspx   
 Set up the Virtual Desktop Service (optional) Refer to: http://staff.napier.ac.uk/services/cit/OffCampusServices/Pages/Virtual-Desktop-Service.aspx   
Read the Lost Device procedure to ensure you know the steps to take if your device is lost or stolen
