What is the Virtual Desktop Service?

Aimed at:  Edinburgh Napier’s staff

The Virtual Desktop Service (VDS) enables you to access an Edinburgh Napier desktop from anywhere, anytime on almost any device.

VDS Logo

This includes:

  • Most University applications
  • Your H drive (personal data area) via "My Documents"
  • Your S drive via "My Documents" (staff only)
  • Your email account via the MS Outlook client (staff only)

When you use the VDS a fresh, clean desktop is presented each time you log on, maintaining  performance and reducing likelihood of potential corruption, viruses and incompatibilities.

Use the VDS on campus (e.g. if there are no free on-campus PCs available or if you prefer to work in social areas), or off campus to work from home or even abroad.
