How do I disconnect from a Remote Desktop session?

Aimed at:  Edinburgh Napier’s staff

If you are connected to your office PC via a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) you need to ensure that when you disconnect from the session you do not shut down your office PC.  If you shut down your office PC it will need to be physically switched back on.

To disconnect from a RDC session without shutting down your office PC:

  • Click on the Close button (X) on the top left of the screen.

If you are Remote Connecting using full screen mode it will look like this:

If you are running your Remote Desktop session in a window then it will look like this:  :

  • When prompted click OK:

  • You will disconnect from your office PC however the PC will stay on, and the programs will continue to run.
